National Level Coding Competition for Children
Kathmandu- A national level coding competition for children will be held in Nepal in collaboration with Discovery Education Network UK and EduTech. The title of this coding event is “Discovery Education, Edutech Coding Competition 2024”. The training partner for this event is an IT training provider called Dursikshya.
The CEO of Dursikshya, Krishna Pandey announced that the competition aims to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills in students aged 7 to 14. This competition targets the students in Grades 2 to 7.
Different organizations like NPCERT, Center for Cyber Security Research and Innovation (CSRI), Rotary Club of Yala, OneCover Pvt. Ltd., ICT Frame, Tech Entrepreneurs Association Nepal, and Tech Bloggers Association of Nepal are collaborating for the success of the event.
How to participate in the National Level Coding Competition?
Interested candidates can submit an online project proposal on a selected theme. Dursikshya’s trainers will provide free webinars on how to develop the project using the Discovery Education coding platform.
Among all the projects submitted online, the best one will be selected for further physical events. The participants will now work under the guidance of a mentor and need to submit a project based on the theme of their choice.
The participants will get a participation certificate from Discovery Education Network, along with a free one-year subscription to the platform.
The winner from Nepal will receive a tablet, NPR 50,000 in cash and global exposure. The first up will receive NPR 25,000.
Future Opportunity
The winner from Nepal will get the opportunity to compete with Indian students in a coding competition. After that, if they succeed in the competition, they will be selected to participate in Discovery Education’s global competition in the UK.
The CEO of Dursikshya, Krishna Pandey said, “Coding provides children with the opportunity to explore the world of technology and helps them learn skills that can be useful in future careers. Therefore, developing such skills should start at an early age.”

- Grades 2–5: Block-based coding competition
- Grades 6–9: Python coding competition

Yalam Baidya, the Chairman of Dursikshya said, ‘Organizing such events conveys the message that there are institutions in Nepal to develop skilled manpower.’
CSRI President Prof. Dr Subarna Shakya mentioned that this competition would inspire children to solve problems through coding skills.
Former DIG of Nepal Police and NPCERT advisor Dr Rajiv Subba stated that such competition will enhance the technical skills of students and shape the thoughts and behaviours of young people.
Chiranjibi Adhikari, CEO of OneCover Pvt. Ltd., expressed that such a world-class coding competition would bring Nepalese students, schools, society, and the entire country closer to technology and make them competitive in the digital world.
Ritesh Ghimire, founder of the Tech Blogger Association of Nepal, noted that the children’s coding competition would nourish technical skills and prepare young minds for the IT industry.
Padam Raj Pant, founder and director of the Tech Entrepreneurs Association of Nepal, emphasized that the coding competition would foster entrepreneurial thinking from childhood and open the path for future innovators.
Dinesh Lal Shrestha, the service director of the Rotary Club of Yala said, “This competition provides Nepalese youth and students with the opportunity to showcase 21st-century skills and bring out their hidden talents.”
