The Federation of Computer Association Nepal (CAN Federation) has announced a strategic partnership with the Female Economic Journalist Association (FEJA) to host an upcoming workshop titled “AI in Journalism“. The event is scheduled for July 26, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and is expected to mark a significant milestone in integrating artificial intelligence within Nepal’s media sector.
The initiative officially took shape following a joint signing ceremony. The historic agreement was signed by representatives from the CAN Federation, FEJA President Sharmila Thakuri, Sunway College Kathmandu Director Simoli Desai, and Tech Bloggers Association of Nepal (TBAN) President Santosh Dhungana. Sunway College Kathmandu will serve as the official AI partner for the event.
The primary objective of the collaboration is twofold: elevating the technical skills of female media professionals and deploying cutting-edge technology to protect journalistic integrity. FEJA President Sharmila Thakuri praised the initiative, noting that the training framework will be highly impactful for female journalists looking to scale their technical skills in a rapidly shifting digital landscape. Organizers highlighted that the strategic alliance aims to deploy advanced AI tools in modern newsrooms for data fraud detection and to build robust mechanisms that minimize the spread of misinformation, disinformation, and fake news.
The intensive two-hour curriculum is tailored for content creators, digital marketers, media entrepreneurs, and working journalists. The sessions will cover the foundational capabilities of artificial intelligence in modern communication as well as practical methods for AI-assisted news gathering and production to streamline how stories are sourced and organized.
High-level technical training will be led by prominent figures from Nepal’s technology and academic spaces. Ritesh Ghimire, the Founder and Mentor of TBAN and current Chief Technology Officer at Kantipur Neo, will serve as the chief trainer, bringing over a decade of media technology experience with focus on building AI-powered newsrooms. He will be joined by co-trainer Prabigya Acharya, the AI Research Coordinator at Sunway College Kathmandu, who will provide research-driven insights during the practical sessions
