The Chinese government has handed over the cash assistance it announced for the flood victims in Nepal. On Sunday, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming met Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle at the Ministry of Finance and handed over a check of approximately 305 million Nepali rupees (2 million US dollars) to the Finance Minister.
Similarly, Ambassador Maoming also handed over cash equivalent to 30.6 million rupees (200,000 US dollars) provided by the Chinese Red Cross.
While handing over the relief amount, Ambassador Maoming stated that both countries would jointly face the disaster experienced by Nepal and China due to the massive catastrophe in the Himalayan region.
Ambassador Maoming informed that the President and Prime Minister of China had sent a message to the Nepali government stating that China is always with Nepal in its calamity, and other forms of assistance provided by the Chinese government for Nepal have also started arriving in Nepal.
Ambassador Maoming stated that just today, two Chinese aircraft landed 50 tons of relief materials such as tents, blankets, sleeping bags, medical kits, and biscuits in Kathmandu. He also added that further assistance would be continued.
He also informed the Finance Minister that efforts are underway to bring back Nepalis stranded on the Chinese side due to the flood in Rasuwa, via the Korola border point in Mustang.
Similarly, Ambassador Maoming informed that skilled personnel, including a Chinese helicopter, arrived in Nepal yesterday for the rescue of those trapped in the hydropower company’s tunnel, and some more skilled rescue technicians arrived in Nepal today.

He also informed the Finance Minister that the Chinese government is working at a fast pace to bring to Nepal large-capacity drones capable of carrying goods, as requested by the Nepal government for rescue operations.
Receiving the assistance amount from the Chinese government on behalf of the Nepal government, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle expressed gratitude for the Chinese government’s support to Nepal, which is going through an unimaginable disaster.
Stating that both countries have suffered significant human and material losses due to the disaster, he expressed deep sorrow on behalf of the Nepal government for the losses suffered by China.
Finance Minister Dr. Wagle offered condolences to the Chinese citizens who lost their lives due to the flood and expressed deep sympathy to their families.
Stating that the devastating damage from rising global temperatures is just the beginning for countries in the Himalayan region, he emphasized the need for Nepal and China to work hand-in-hand to face this challenge.
He also stated that Nepal expects significant assistance from China for the reconstruction of damages incurred due to this flood. In the Finance Minister’s office, where the aid handover program took place, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle and Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming also observed a moment of silence, paying tribute to the citizens of both countries who lost their lives due to the flood.
