The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection under the Ministry of Industry found a large quantity of gas hidden during a raid on Radisson Hotel in Kathmandu. According to the department, approximately 184 gas cylinders were found in the hotel alone.
Despite a sufficient gas supply, the department had increased surveillance on various hotels and commercial establishments after an increase in consumer complaints about not receiving gas. During monitoring conducted in this context, a large number of Nepal Gas and STC Gas cylinders were found at the Radisson Hotel.
According to the department, 117 full cylinders of Nepal Gas and 67 cylinders of STC Gas were found in the hotel. Furthermore, the department stated that approximately 70 cylinders were also found to be in use in the hotel’s kitchens.

The Ministry of Industry stated that preparations are underway to take action against the concerned hotel after it was found that the hotel had stockpiled a large quantity of gas at a time when there was a gas shortage in the market for consumers.
The ministry stated that to end the situation where consumers have to face shortages despite sufficient gas in the market, it will further tighten surveillance on hotels, commercial establishments, and unauthorized gas storage.
