Young Man Arrested for Assaulting Female Traffic Police Officer After Being Asked to Use Skywalk to Cross Road

September 9, Kathmandu.

Police have arrested a person on charges of verbally abusing and assaulting a female traffic police officer on duty in Baneshwor, after she asked him to cross the road using the skywalk.

SP Dan Bahadur Thapa of Kathmandu District Police Complex informed that a young man was arrested on Tuesday on charges of verbally abusing and assaulting a female traffic police officer on duty in Thapagaon, Baneshwor, Kathmandu.

According to him, the arrested individual is 27-year-old Raju Kathayat, a resident of Tatopani Rural Municipality-2, Jumla. In conversation, SP Thapa said, ‘This morning during busy hours (peak hour), a female traffic police officer on duty on the road in Thapagaon had requested pedestrians to cross the road via the skywalk. But Kathayat, saying he would not cross the road from the place indicated by the traffic police, verbally abused and assaulted the female officer.’

After the video related to the incident was made public on social media, police initiated an investigation into the incident. SP Thapa of Kathmandu District Police Complex informed that police took Kathayat into custody and are conducting further investigation into the incident.
