Vishnukumari, who lost everything, discharged completely healthy after a free kidney transplant

Vishnukumari Dangol, who lost everything in the flood that occurred in Bhotekoshi on Bhadra 10, has been discharged completely healthy after a successful free kidney transplant at Kathmandu Medical College (KMC). Her husband, Rajkumar, donated the kidney, and he has also been discharged along with his wife.

After the flood not only swept away their home but also the money Vishnukumari, 41, had painstakingly saved for years for her treatment, pushing her to the brink of life and death, Nepali Congress leader and KMC operator Dr. Sunil Kumar Sharma, having learned about her plight through social media, announced that he would provide all their treatment free of charge.

Additionally, he made special arrangements for food and drink for both the patient and the kidney donor. Immediately after Sharma’s announcement, KMC’s team of expert doctors initiated Vishnukumari’s kidney transplant process.

As the Dangol couple returned home from the hospital, completely healthy after a successful kidney transplant, they emotionally expressed heartfelt gratitude to the entire medical team involved in the treatment, including transplant surgeons Dr. Suresh Maharjan, Dr. Vijayman Singh Katuwal, and Dr. Anil Pokhrel.

Rajkumar, overwhelmed by this humanitarian assistance from leader Sharma and KMC Hospital, recounted that they felt they had met God in real life during this difficult time. Choking up, he said, “The pain of losing everything was already there, but today, God-like Sunil Sir gave us a new life. We feel that people who do good deeds still exist in this world. We offer millions of salutations to him.”

All kidney transplants performed at Kathmandu Medical College (KMC) so far have been 100% successful. Vishnukumari is the 86th patient to undergo a successful kidney transplant at this hospital.

Leader Sharma, who internalizes the suffering of disaster-affected citizens as if it were his own family’s pain, had already announced that his hospital doors would remain open free of charge for flood victims.

His firm resolve, ‘No Nepali should lose their life prematurely due to lack of money,’ has today become a great support for hundreds of underprivileged patients like Vishnukumari.
