August 9, Kathmandu.

Following information about black marketing in cooking gas, plainclothes police will be deployed at various gas depots in Kathmandu Valley, in coordination between the Home Ministry and the Ministry of Industry.

Despite there being no problem in gas imports from India, Industry Minister Gauri Yadav has taken interest in this matter after the Ministry of Industry began receiving continuous complaints and information from consumers alleging that black marketing is occurring by suddenly creating an artificial shortage.

To control activities that create artificial scarcity and sell gas at high prices to consumers by showing a shortage in the market despite a smooth gas supply, Minister Yadav had sought police assistance from Home Minister Sudan Gurung for monitoring.

Following Minister Yadav’s request, Home Minister Gurung has instructed the police administration to increase surveillance at gas depots and sales centers and to deploy plainclothes police as needed.

The government has increased surveillance on traders who create artificial scarcity of gas, hoard it, and sell it above the fixed price, preparing to take legal action if they are found guilty. Additionally, it has been stated that monitoring will be made more effective to ensure an environment where consumers can easily obtain gas.
