‘Care Plan’ Implemented for the Protection of Disaster-Affected Children, Temporary Protection Service Center Operating in Thecho

4th Ashoj, Kathmandu.

The government has implemented the ‘Care Plan’ for the safety and protection of children who have been separated from their families due to disasters, are without parents or guardians, and are in need of special protection. Under the plan, a Temporary Protection Service Center for children has come into operation in Thecho, Godawari Municipality-12, Lalitpur.

The center in Thecho, brought into operation by the National Child Rights Council at the initiative of the Ministry of Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities, and Social Security, has been operated as a center to provide immediate safe shelter and necessary protection services for disaster-affected children and children in need of special protection.

The center will provide services such as safe housing, food, health treatment, psychosocial support, family status identification, and search for family or relatives for children. Ensuring the best interest and safety of the children, they will be safely reunited with their families or suitable relatives whenever possible.

Only in cases where safe reunification with family or relatives is not possible, based on an assessment of the children’s best interest, safety, and needs, long-term safe protection will be arranged as a last resort, in accordance with prevailing laws and standards.
