Important discussions were held between Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal and Foreign Minister Cho Hyun of the Republic of Korea on the ongoing search, rescue, and relief operations following the recent devastating Bhote Koshi flood in Nepal, as well as on various issues of bilateral relations.
During the bilateral meeting concluded on Sunday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Singhadurbar, serious discussions were also held on the search and rescue operations for the missing citizens of the Republic of Korea following the devastating flood in the Bhote Koshi River on August 26.
On that occasion, Foreign Minister Khanal expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Korea for sending an inter-agency rapid response team and a Korea Disaster Relief Team to assist in search and rescue operations in the flood-affected areas.
He also expressed thanks for the humanitarian aid and relief materials provided by the Republic of Korea for the flood-affected citizens.
Stating that the Government of Nepal has given high priority to post-disaster reconstruction, Minister Khanal said that reconstruction would proceed with the construction of sustainable and safe infrastructure and according to the ‘Build Back Better’ concept, so that future disasters cause less damage. He also expressed confidence that continuous support would be received from the Republic of Korea in this endeavor.

During the meeting, Foreign Minister Cho Hyun of the Republic of Korea expressed his government’s willingness to provide necessary support for Nepal’s post-disaster reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts.
Stating that the international community has a historical responsibility for the loss of lives, property, and infrastructure suffered by countries like Nepal due to climate change, Minister Cho Hyun emphasized that Nepal and the Republic of Korea should cooperate to make the global community more sensitive to the effects of climate change and the disasters caused by it.
He expressed the view that a united voice should be raised at international forums, including the United Nations Climate Change Conference, regarding the challenges and losses faced by countries like Nepal due to climate change.
Additionally, the Republic of Korea expressed its commitment to raise its voice regarding the financial assistance that Nepal should receive from the international community for the damages caused by climate change.
During the meeting, both Foreign Ministers expressed their commitment to continue close cooperation to strengthen and expand the long-standing friendly relations, mutual trust, understanding, and cooperation between Nepal and the Republic of Korea, taking bilateral relations to new heights.
