20 Bhadra, Kathmandu.

Ncell has announced a further 7-day extension of the free service it has been providing in areas affected by the flood in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa.

With the aim of facilitating communication, search, rescue, and relief distribution, Ncell will make this free service available for an additional 7 days starting from Bhadra 20, which means until Bhadra 26.

With this, Ncell’s voice, data, and SMS services will be available free of charge for another week in the affected areas.

Previously, on Bhadra 10, the day the flood occurred, Ncell had announced providing free voice, data, and SMS services for three days in the affected areas.

Subsequently, the free service period was extended by 7 days until Bhadra 19. “In this difficult time, to ensure easy communication, we have decided to extend the free service period in the affected areas for another 7 days.

As 92 percent of the disrupted towers have been restored, we believe that our free service during this disaster will greatly help the affected communities stay in contact with their families and relatives, and assist the teams involved in search and rescue operations with necessary coordination,” said Upang Dutta, Chief Consumer Business Officer at Ncell.

During a disaster, communication services play a crucial role in making information exchange, mutual coordination, and search, rescue, and relief distribution effective.

The free service has made it easier for ordinary people in affected communities to stay in touch with family members, relatives, and teams involved in rescue and relief operations.

92 Percent of Affected Towers Restored

Ncell has restored 92 percent of its towers that were disrupted in the areas affected by the Bhotekoshi flood and is currently providing services. The company has also stated that it is undertaking necessary work to restore the remaining towers.

A total of 27 Ncell towers were disrupted due to the flood. Yesterday, Thursday, the company restored its 25th tower in Trishuli, Nuwakot.

One tower in Ghattakhola, Timure, Rasuwa, has been completely destroyed. Ncell has stated that necessary coordination is underway to restore service to the remaining tower in Uttargaya, Tiru, also in Rasuwa, by delivering essential equipment via helicopter.

Ncell has been supporting continuous communication services during disasters, as well as search, rescue, relief, and awareness campaigns.

It has been disseminating informative messages issued by relevant authorities through SMS, call tones, and its social media pages and accounts.

Similarly, the day after the flood, Ncell, through the Ncell Foundation, contributed Rs. 1 crore to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund with the aim of supporting search, rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts.
