The report related to the amendment of the Nepal Rastra Bank Act has been unanimously passed in the meeting of the Finance Committee.
In the committee meeting held on Wednesday, Chairman Krishna Hari Budhathoki proposed the report related to the amendment of the Nepal Rastra Bank Act for discussion.
In the meeting, the committee’s report on the bill formed to amend the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, 2058, was discussed.
During the discussion, Chairman Budhathoki stated that there had been long discussions, arguments, and dialogues on various issues of the bill in the committee. He informed that amendment proposals were also registered to amend the issues they deemed necessary.
‘We also registered amendment proposals based on the belief that these issues, which we felt, should be amended,’ he said, ‘After that, we engaged in many arguments, dialogues, and debates here in the discussion. That is also in our committee’s record.’

According to Budhathoki, the decisions made by the committee on the bill were unanimous. He stated that the meeting focused on checking whether the report, prepared based on those decisions, included any issues beyond the committee’s decisions before being presented to the house.
He said, ‘This is the first bill in the committee’s discussion. The very heartfelt sentiment of all members that this bill should proceed unanimously has also contributed greatly to it.’
He stated that discussions and decisions made in the committee meetings are on record, and committee members can register additional suggestions or their views in writing with the committee secretariat.
He emphasized that the country must make an economic leap while the Nepal Rastra Bank Act is being amended. He specifically stated the need for structural reforms in the selection of the central bank’s leadership and ensuring that the leadership performs effectively.
Stating that committee members have embraced the bill as an opportunity for change, he said that the report should be forwarded to the house without unnecessary delay.
