RSP to initiate efforts to form an all-party parliamentary high-level committee on Bhotekoshi flood

Jagadish Kharel, spokesperson for the National Independent Party (RSP), stated that an in-depth review has been conducted regarding the search and rescue, relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction efforts following the Bhotekoshi flood.

Speaking after an all-party meeting held on Wednesday at the RSP parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar, he stated that discussions were held on the work being done by various state bodies including the government, political parties, and local levels.

He said, ‘Today, discussions were held with important political parties represented in the parliament, especially regarding the Bhotekoshi flood and the subsequent search and rescue, relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction efforts. Representatives from the Government of Nepal also participated. Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle was present at today’s meeting. An in-depth review and discussion were held concerning the work being done by various state bodies including the government, political parties, and local levels in the search and rescue, relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction efforts following the Bhotekoshi flood.’

Kharel informed that the meeting made two important decisions. According to him, it was decided to continue the all-party high-level political mechanism called by RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane on Bhadra 11.

He said, ‘Today’s meeting made 2 important decisions. Among them, the first decision is to maintain the all-party high-level political mechanism that RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane had called for on Bhadra 11, the day after the flood. Three meetings of this mechanism have already been held. It has been decided that this all-party high-level political mechanism, with RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane as its coordinator, will be maintained to discuss disaster risk reduction and management in a sustainable manner and overall development and construction.’

Similarly, he stated that the meeting decided to initiate efforts to form an all-party parliamentary high-level committee within a week. He added that representation in the committee would be based on the number of seats political parties have in the parliament.

He said, ‘Today’s meeting has everyone’s consent to form an all-party parliamentary high-level committee. It has been decided to immediately form a parliamentary committee within a week, with representation based on the number of seats each party holds in the parliament, and to initiate efforts to form that committee. For this, an appeal will be made to the Speaker of the Parliament, and the all-party political mechanism will also request the esteemed Parliament. Along with this, political parties have expressed their readiness and support for forming a parliamentary committee from within the parliament.’
