Sept. 8, Kathmandu.
World Physiotherapy Day is celebrated every year on September 8. This year, World Physiotherapy Day is being celebrated on September 8, which is Bhadra 23, with the slogan ‘The role of physiotherapy and physical activity in the prevention, management, and rehabilitation of cardiovascular diseases and stroke’.
On the occasion of World Physiotherapy Day, Physiotherapist Pratik Pokharel, working at Grande International Hospital, stated that physiotherapy and physical activity are extremely important in the prevention and treatment of heart disease and stroke.
Pokharel, who specializes in ICU, critical care, and cardio-respiratory physiotherapy, states that approximately 20 million people worldwide die annually due to heart disease and stroke. He emphasized that it is better to prevent these diseases than to treat them after they have occurred.
He stated that these diseases can be prevented by timely identifying and managing risks such as high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, smoking, and physical inactivity. “Physiotherapists assess an individual’s physical capacity and recommend exercises that bring further improvements to health,” he said.

Exercise is not just about moving the body, but a type of investment in heart and brain health, he said, adding that engaging in 30 minutes of physical activity, 5 days a week, can reduce the risk of stroke by up to 25 percent.
Pokharel also states that physiotherapy plays a crucial role for patients who have already suffered a stroke. He says that physiotherapists provide significant help in restoring patients to society by increasing their physical strength and balance.
Physiotherapist Pokharel has urged everyone not to remain inactive and to engage in some form of exercise. “Movement is the basis of health, so he asked everyone to stay healthy.”
