No room to question government’s role in disaster: Rabi Lamichhane

Rabi Lamichhane, Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), stated that the government has effectively mobilized state mechanisms for rescue, treatment, and relief during times of disaster.

Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting held on Wednesday, Lamichhane expressed the view that the disaster situation should not be viewed from the traditional perspective of ruling and opposition parties. He stated that since the disaster began, the government has mobilized all its state mechanisms to advance rescue, treatment, and relief efforts.

Lamichhane claimed that thousands of security personnel were deployed to the affected areas in the initial hours of the disaster and that air rescue operations were also conducted in an organized manner.

He said, ‘I do not see the need to view the government’s role in this disaster through the traditional lens of ruling and opposition parties. In the initial hours of the disaster, the government mobilized all its state mechanisms and began rescue, treatment, and relief work. Thousands of security personnel were immediately deployed to the affected areas. It can be stated with facts that such a large and organized air rescue campaign has rarely occurred before.’

Lamichhane stated that there is no room to question the government’s promptness in the rescue and treatment of the injured, temporary housing for displaced families, and food management. He said that the state has taken responsibility for the immediate needs and safety of citizens who lost their homes, property, and basic means of livelihood due to the disaster, by keeping them in holding centers.

He said, ‘I see no room to question the government’s promptness in the rescue and treatment of the injured, temporary housing for displaced families, and food provisions. By placing citizens who have lost their homes, property, and even basic means of livelihood in holding centers, the state has taken full responsibility for their immediate needs and safety.’

Lamichhane stated that even though there was no road and transport access in some affected areas and the weather was unfavorable, rescue and relief workers reached the affected citizens. He said that rescue and relief operations were carried out amidst difficult circumstances.

Lamichhane mentioned that local administration, local level representatives, and employees also played an important role in facing the disaster.

He said, ‘In some places, there are no roads, and the weather is unfavorable, but despite all these difficulties, rescue and relief workers have reached the affected citizens. Similarly, local administration, local level representatives, and employees have played an important role in facing this disaster.’

He stated that coordination among all state mechanisms during a disaster and providing immediate relief and rescue to affected citizens is the main issue. Lamichhane expressed the view that the assessment of the disaster should be made rising above political biases and prejudices.
