September 7, Kathmandu.

The Sagarmatha Smashers team of the first edition of the Nepal Volleyball League (NVL) has placed the QR code of the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund on its jersey instead of a commercial organization in the main sponsor’s spot.

Team promoter Shani Raj Bhandari informed that after the significant loss of life and property caused by the devastating flood in Rasuwa’s Bhotekoshi River, many sports organizations have been contributing from their respective places, and Sagarmatha has also placed the QR code to show solidarity with the rescue and relief efforts for flood victims.

Stating that they are saddened by the significant loss of life and property caused by the devastating flood in Rasuwa’s Bhotekoshi River, the entire Sagarmatha team has paid heartfelt tributes to all who lost their lives in the flood-affected areas. Expressing condolences to the bereaved families, the team has also wished for the swift search and rescue of missing citizens and the safe rehabilitation of those affected.

Sagarmatha stated its understanding that even small efforts made by everyone from their respective places during such a disaster provide great strength to the government and concerned bodies.

Regarding placing the QR code of the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund in the main sponsor’s spot, the Sagarmatha team says, ‘Volleyball is the national sport of Nepal, and the public’s passion for it is well-known. When the country faces a crisis, only by uniting can the situation be eased.

With this belief, we have decided not to place any commercial organization in the main sponsor’s spot for the first edition of NVL, and instead, place the QR code of the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund. Many sports organizations are contributing from their respective places. We have also made this decision to show the same solidarity.’

Previously, the organizers had also announced that all proceeds from the ticket sales of the NVL opening match against Madhesh Warriors would be deposited into the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund. Sagarmatha has also sincerely requested all sports enthusiasts and citizens to unite for the country in this tragic time.

NVL commenced on Friday. Sagarmatha was victorious in the opening match of the six-team tournament.

In the match held at the National Sports Council’s covered hall in Tripureshwar, Sagarmatha defeated Madhesh Warriors in a 3-1 set. After the six teams play a single round-robin league in the NVL, which runs until September 11, the top-ranked team will directly advance to the final.

The teams ranking second and third will play a playoff for a spot in the final.

The winner of the franchise league, organized for the first time in Nepali men’s volleyball, will win 2 million Nepali rupees. This is the highest cash prize ever in Nepali volleyball.
