Digital Ticketing Launched in Sajha Bus: Night Bus Service to Expand from Ashoj 3, Free Shuttle Bus for Tourists in Lalitpur

Sajha Yatayat has launched ‘Digital Ticketing and Command and Control Center’ by making its services technology-friendly.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol and Lalitpur Metropolitan City’s Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan jointly launched the service at a special ceremony held on Thursday.

Addressing the program, Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s Acting Mayor Dangol announced that night bus service will be expanded in the valley from the upcoming Constitution Day (Ashoj 3). She stated that the night service, which started on Baisakh 1 in collaboration with four municipalities – Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Chandragiri, and Budhanilkantha – covering two routes, will now operate on six routes.

‘During the first 90-day trial, over 67,000 passengers utilized the night service. We are now expanding the night bus service to six routes, covering municipalities including Bhaktapur, Suryavinayak, and Godavari,’ Dangol said. Mentioning a loss of approximately 1 million rupees during the trial period, she expressed confidence that the digital payment system would prove to be a milestone in controlling revenue leakage.

Similarly, Lalitpur Metropolitan City’s Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan informed that preparations are underway to operate free electric ‘shuttle buses’ in heritage areas before Dashain for tourism promotion. He stated that environmentally friendly green buses will be operated, starting from Pulchowk and Patandhoka, circling through Patan Durbar Square, Mahabauddha, and Lagankhel.

‘This electric shuttle bus will be operated completely free of charge, targeting tourists, senior citizens, and people with disabilities visiting Patan Durbar Square,’ Maharjan said. He also clarified that Lalitpur Metropolitan City has made a policy decision not to purchase any fossil fuel (diesel/petrol) vehicles henceforth to reduce environmental pollution.

Both mayors stated that local levels in the valley are committed to long-term cooperation with Sajha Yatayat to make public transport systematic, modern, and pollution-free.
