Digital Ticketing Starts in Sajha Bus: Night Bus Service Expansion from Ashoj 3, Free Shuttle Bus for Tourists in Lalitpur

Sajha Yatayat has launched ‘Digital Ticketing and Command and Control Center’ making its services technology-friendly.

At a special ceremony held on Thursday, Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol and Lalitpur Metropolitan City’s Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan jointly inaugurated the service.

Addressing the program, Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s Acting Mayor Dangol announced that the night bus service in the valley would be expanded from the upcoming Constitution Day (Ashoj 3). She stated that the night service, which began on Baishakh 1 in collaboration with four municipalities – Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Chandragiri, and Budhanilkantha – covering two routes, will now operate on six routes.

‘In the first 90-day trial, over 67,000 passengers used the night service. Now, we are expanding the night bus service to six routes, covering municipalities including Bhaktapur, Suryabinayak, and Godawari,’ Dangol said. Mentioning a loss of approximately 1 million rupees during the trial period, she expressed confidence that the digital payment system would prove to be a cornerstone in controlling revenue leakage.

Similarly, Lalitpur Metropolitan City’s Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan informed that preparations are underway to operate free electric ‘shuttle buses’ in heritage areas before Dashain for tourism promotion. He stated that eco-friendly green buses are planned to run, starting from Pulchowk and Patandhoka, touring through Patan Durbar Square, Mahabuddha, and Lagankhel.

‘This electric shuttle bus will be operated completely free of charge, targeting tourists visiting Patan Durbar Square, senior citizens, and people with disabilities,’ Maharjan said. He also clarified that Lalitpur Metropolitan City has made a policy decision to no longer purchase any fossil fuel (diesel/petrol) powered vehicles to reduce environmental pollution.

Both mayors stated that the local levels of the valley are committed to long-term cooperation with Sajha Yatayat to make public transport systematic, modern, and pollution-free.
