Ncell has started providing satellite technology-based internet service with the aim of facilitating ongoing search, rescue, and relief operations in areas affected by floods in the Bhote Koshi River, and to ensure that communication remains uninterrupted even in emergency situations.
Ncell is installing equipment operated by Eutelsat’s Low Earth Orbit satellites in important and necessary locations identified in coordination with relevant government bodies involved in rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts. This technology provides internet service via satellite even when communication networks are disrupted.
This technology will currently provide free internet service in areas such as flood-affected communities, holding centers and relief distribution centers, temporary camps, and emergency operation sites. So far, services have been provided in three important locations in Nuwakot through this technology, and installation work is ongoing in other flood-affected areas.
In this technology, equipment installed on the ground receives internet signals from satellites. Then, this equipment provides Wi-Fi service to surrounding areas through another device. Even if regular internet and mobile services are unavailable, this technology provides internet service.
This technology provides high-speed and low-latency connectivity, meaning people can use it for exchanging messages, internet-based calls, accessing important information, browsing, and coordinating relief efforts.
Ncell has already obtained the necessary approvals from government bodies, including the Nepal Telecommunications Authority, for this service.

“We have established satellite communication access in three locations in Nuwakot where road infrastructure and communication services have been severely affected. This will facilitate rescue and relief efforts and help affected local residents stay in touch during this difficult time,” said Dilli Ram Shrestha, Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer of Ncell.
From the very first day, Ncell has been providing free voice, data, and SMS services daily to over 300,000 affected customers in flood-affected areas. The company, through Ncell Foundation, has also provided financial assistance of 10 million rupees to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund for rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts.
Providing internet via satellite when staying in contact with each other is essential is strong evidence of Ncell’s firm commitment to always stand with the Nepali people. This action by Ncell shows that it is not limited merely to restoring disrupted services.
