Nepal was honored at the 79th meeting of the World Health Organization (WHO) South-East Asia Regional Committee for maintaining the elimination status of maternal and neonatal tetanus for a decade.
A three-member delegation from Nepal, led by Additional Secretary Dr. Sangeeta Kausal Mishra, is participating in the ongoing meeting in Delhi.
WHO honored Nepal, stating that the achievement was maintained through strong national commitment, quality vaccination services, and safe delivery practices.
The Director-General of WHO handed over the certificate of honor to Dr. Mishra, head of Nepal’s delegation.

The certificate of honor states that Nepal’s achievement has significantly contributed to the collective efforts to maintain maternal and neonatal tetanus elimination in the South-East Asia region.
Meanwhile, due to the devastating floods in the country, which required her direct involvement in health response, coordination, and life-saving efforts, Minister of Health and Food Hygiene, Nisha Mehta, was not able to participate in the meeting.
Minister Mehta, through a video message, provided information about the crisis caused by floods in Nepal and the condition of the affected communities, and highlighted the need for climate justice and climate finance for health.
